MONTGOMERY- Alabama Homeland Security Director Jim Walker announces $5.4 million dollars will be awarded to four fire departments in the state. The fire departments and allocations are:

  • City of Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Department - $1,832,907

  • City of Madison Fire and Rescue Department - $1,415,043

  • County #17 Fire and Rescue (Shelby County) - $276,130

Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the Fire Station Construction Grant (SCG) Program aims to improve the capabilities and capacities for firefighters nationwide. The grant is specifically for construction, renovation or modification of fire stations.

“This funding will greatly benefit the citizens in these areas,” Alabama Homeland Security Director Jim Walker said. “We ask a lot of our firefighters and important grants like this help us ensure they have what they need to serve the public good.”
