Update on Public Safety Interoperable Communications (PSIC) Grant
AL DHS recently received notification that the
state will be awarded
$13,585,399 under the PSIC Grant Program. The purpose of the grant is to acquire,
deploy, and provide training for the use of an overarching statewide interoperable
communications system. The focus will be to develop systems that will serve Alabama
for years to come. The PSIC grant is one-time money and there are strict guidelines
on who can receive funding from this grant, including a 25% match by sub-grantees.
In order to receive the grant, we were required to submit our statewide communications
plan no later than December 3, 2007. The plan was submitted in advance of the deadline,
and we have received initial feedback that the plan meets the standard. We expect
the grant will be available to Alabama in spring 2008.
