The Alabama Department of Homeland Security (AL DHS) congratulates the 2008 Be Ready Camp graduates! Approximately 150 Alabama sixth-graders received the opportunity to attend Be Ready Camp in September. They took the challenge of becoming first responders and passed with flying colors!
AL DHS co-sponsored the three Be Ready Camps with the Governor’s Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville. The students spent the week learning the roles and responsibilities of first responders. At the end, they were able to put those skills to the test in a mock disaster. Each camp concluded with a graduation ceremony with family and friends.
But Be Ready Camp doesn’t
end there! The students will
teach what they learned to
their family, friends and
community. They will spread
the disaster preparedness
message of “Be Informed. Be
Involved. Be Ready.” We invite you to look at pictures of Be Ready Camp 2008 by

Preparations for Be Ready Camp 2009 are underway. If you know a student who will be a sixth-grader in fall 2009, tell them about Be Ready Camp. Application materials to apply will be posted soon.
